How To Multiply Decimals

You know how to multiply integers but confused on how to multiply decimals. This article will explain multiplication of decimals.I’m not going to take significant figures here for simplicity.

Let’s take an example.

1.43*67.5 =96.525

143*675 = 96525

Count no of digits after decimal in 1.43 and 67.5. It’s 2 and 1 respectively. The sum =3

The number of digits after decimal in the product will be 3

So , simply multiply decimals as integers then put decimal at an appropriate location.

ex-2

134.0100 * 0.01 =1.340100 =1.3401

1340100*1=1340100

ex-3

50.0001000* 2.000= 50.0001 * 2 =  100.0002

Take note on how zeroes after decimal are neglected.
